How to Create a Post
Updated September 9th, 2022
Posts provide context to photos, such as information about the building depicted, an event that took place, or the location in general. There are many creative ways to write posts on Urban Archive. Here are a few examples of posts we really like:
This post is granular and provides the history of a building.
This post describes what’s happening in a specific photograph.
This post relates to an event or person associated with the site.
To create a post, you’ll need to first log into Urban Archive with your account details.
Click “log in” in the upper right-hand corner.
Create A Post
Once you’ve logged in, you can create a post by going to any image and clicking into the gray box that says “Post about this image…) under and image.
Any post you write will be credited to your institution. This will display in the byline of your post.
Writing the Post
As you type, the post box will expand. There are no limits to the length of a post.
All text will auto-save in the platform once you click away from the text box.
hyperlinking
Posts are markdown capable on Urban Archive, but notification fields are not.
Using markdown syntax you can add hyperlinks and formatting to your post. The formatting will not appear until you exit edit mode or publish your post.
To learn more about using markdown, see this tutorial.
Publishing YOur Post
Publishing your post will make your post visible to everyone on the platform.
Once published, the post can still be edited or unpublished.
Happy posting!
