We know we’ve been after you for photos of your mom, but now it's dad’s turn! Whether he’s in the midst of savoring a corny joke, attending a baseball game, or spectating a dance recital, now is the time to bring old images of your dad (or paternal figure) to Urban Archive’s map.
So rummage through your old photo albums and see what falls out of the woodwork. Young and hip, old and cargo shorts-wearing, and anything in between, we want it!
Here are a few examples of what we’re looking for:
"My dad and grandfather in front of their building in 1962. I found this photo in my parents' house. I never met my grandfather as he passed away a few months before I was born and there are not many photos of him. My dad and his family arrived in East Harlem from Bari, Italy in 1958."
—Giovanna G.
“My dad, Ralph Mrowka around 1950. We recently developed a bunch of negatives found saved by my dad. Were kids allowed to play in the empty pool in the offseason?“
—Tara Mrowka
📍 East Broadway & Montgomery Street
“I love this photograph of my mother, Stacey Starkman, taken in 1968 with her father and brother on the Lower East Side during the high holidays. My grandfather grew up in the neighborhood and used to take his children from their apartment in Flatbush to go see his mother on East Broadway. He was a Lower East Side boy through and through and shared that love with my mother who in turn shared it with me.”
—Jordana Starkman
