Our Mission

Urban Archive is a technology nonprofit that creates new connections
between people, places, and historical institutions.

Our mission is to inspire learning that's rooted in what's local — the architecture, culture, and unique stories of New York City.

Our Community

We are a community of New Yorkers, tourists, students, researchers, and educators who share a passion for learning and exploring.

Our platform is designed to get people excited about the history of New York in a way that aligns with how technology is used to consume content and navigate cities.

By mapping the city’s history block-by-block, we provide users with an in-depth view into the places that are a part of their daily lives, inspiring them to:

  • Explore history at their fingertips
  • Discover previously inaccessible digital content
  • Engage with new institutions, or with new aspects of the museums they already know and love
  • Be part of a growing community of history enthusiasts and urban explorers
